Original Creation

'Sleeping girl' by Roy Lichtenstein

Voy Kay 22 Apr 2021

My first choice for this event was a creation from René Magritte, famous Belgian surrealist from the 20th century. Unfortunately, I was worried about the painting timeframe so decided against it.
My second choice was 'the scream' by Edvar Munch. Unfortunately, two days later, this creation was done and uploaded by a fellow artist on the site.
Last but not least, I came up with one of my favourite artists AND styles, which is Roy Lichtenstein.
Multiple creations were feasable but had again to keep track of the timeframe so took 'Sleeping girl', less difficult/time consuming to do and still famous enough.

This creation was done on a wooden 8"x8" board, prepared with primer and white gesso. The board had 4 round corner edges so please do not mind those small white/grey corners in the picture!
Hardest parts were the face and the eye placement. Small creations are tough for me due to dominant hand hamperings.

Please let me know what you think of it and if you like it, then I hope for your vote!

Looks awesome Voy! It is a lot of hard work invested in it as this style would need much closer replication to the original. I think you version looks more gentle due to softer face features.

Pietro, thanks so much for cheering!!

Wow! Nice job with the skin pattern!

Thanks Felix, always happy with your cheers. The dots were the hardest part to do of her face with my .... dominant hand. This took quite some time!

I must admit Sunnylady that the picture comes VERY close to reality. Might possibly be caused by the wooden surface used!
I had close to 80 colours to choose from yet decided against the more pink approach from Lichtenstein. Therefor I chose a softer color and SO glad it worked out!

And yes, I did spend quite some time at this creation, for being so small (20cm x 20cm.

This is neat Voy! Love the colors and it appears that you have some “dotting” capabilities yourself 😉.

Hahaha, yes FVG, I learned from the best! Although my dotting is far more freestyle then yours, but I feel okay with that. My less happy dominant hand has restrictions, specially with smalle creations.
SO happy you love this one!!

Wow this is amazing! She looks so close to the original! Reminds me of old comic books I used to read. FVG has some competition in the dotting league!

Dear Lilikens, so happy you like this one!
Not everybody appreciates pop art, and although I like Warhol, I do prefer Lichtenstein A LOT more!
Lichtenstein created this one out a comic book from 1964. I adore that style and was SO happy I was able to create this, AND with use of the dotting technique!

Hey, happy to see you Guna!
True, the dots were a bit of a challenge, specially because they were done freestyle. It is a wonderful effect though and this creation openend the door for me to try more similar projects in the near future!

very good.. love it

Thank you David! Happy to know that several people do like 'pop art'!
